Bai Tai Sui (拜太岁) is a traditional practice performed at the beginning of the lunar year to pay respects to the year's presiding Tai Sui deity.
Each year is associated with a different Tai Sui General, who is traditionally believed to oversee the fortunes and circumstances of that year. Devotees, especially those whose Chinese zodiac signs are considered to be in conflict with Tai Sui (犯太岁), are encouraged to offer prayers for peace, protection, good health and harmony.
